Andréanne Oberson

Born in 1975, Fribourg, Switzerland

There’s a fierce will in Andréanne Oberson’s approach, that is to escape from any regimentation, from any theoretical, cultural or political enrolment. Her body of work is indeed constantly laying them bare. Andréanne Oberson is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Switzerland in 1975. Following her Master’s Degree in Visual Arts at ECAL (Lausanne’s Cantonal Schoolof Fine Arts), she chooses to also share her passion by teaching and obtains a Master’s Degree in Education. Forever since, she’s been working with teenagers for more than twenty years, helping them to acquire the necessary skills and tools to achieve the transmutation of their thoughts into images.

Oberson’s one-of-a-kind true sorceress of the image – a real visual witch -, moving effortlessly from drawing to photography and from collage to performance. She’s a former co-founder of the « Collectif Indigène » (2009-2016) and the « Éditions du petit o » (2012-2016).

Everything is an inspiration for her. She draws on everyday life so as to reveal the hungry and haunting ghosts of our memories. Her body of work questions notions such as space, time, memory and our amazing storytelling abilities. She’s obsessed with tracking down the failures of our image system. By opening gaps within it, she’s able to breathe poetry into it, along with a critical perspective aiming to subvert hierarchy : supremacy of language, reassessment of temporality, appearance of the narrative.

Andréanne Oberson currently lives and works in Switzerland.
